Commissioned by the Palisades Virtuosi, Gary Schocker's Sonata No. 2 for Flute, Clarinet, and Piano is a formal work – perfect for recitals by flutists, clarinetists, and flute/clarinet duos. The sonata is a joyous bridge fusing Schocker's fondness for beauty and wit with all the architecture of traditional sonata construction. The opening movement, Flip, sets the stage with its quick interplay between the three performers, handing melodic elements back and forth among them. The middle movement, Old Flame, is a beautiful melancholic longing, while the finale, Fancypants, is a showcase of dynamic, rhythmic ensemble playing. For advanced performers.
