This regal, stately second movement of Craig Courtney’s trilogy, Divine Encounter, is based on Micah 6:6-8. As we partake of God's bounty, our gratitude urges us to offer ourselves as living sacrifices to serve God and people alike. Suitable for use on its own, or as part of the three-movement work; effective in both worship and concert settings.

The first movement of Craig Courtney’s trilogy, Divine Encounter, is a song in which God invites us to receive His bounty. The first verse of Isaiah 55 is expressed as a celebration rather than the meditative, lyric manner found in most settings. In contrast, the setting of the sixth verse is regal, earnest and authoritative and the architecture of the movement is built upon the contrast between these two styles. Suitable for use on its own, or as part of the three-movement work; effective in both worship and concert settings.

Music & Text: Matthew West, Bernie Herms, Mark Hall
Scripture: Habakkuk 2:1-4; Hebrews 10:35; Hebrews 11:1; John 20:24-29; Psalm 126
One of the loveliest themes and sentiments in recent Christian songwriting is sensitively adapted in this release. Borrowing from the carol “Silent Night,” the songwriters remind us that not all holiday moments are joyous for people going through heartache or illness. Ideal to program for “Blue Christmas” services, this original wraps the hurting heart in a graceful message of unconditional love. The arranging is effective and approachable, with elegant piano adornment.

Powerfully poignant and equally tender, My Dearest Ruth is Garrop’s musical setting of the final love letter from Martin Ginsburg to his wife, the opera-loving Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, only days before Martin’s passing. Commissioned by the family to celebrate Justice Ginsburg’s 80th birthday, the work later became a highlight of the Cedille Records CD “Notorious RBG in Song.” My Dearest Ruth is a touching 6½-minute scene, touching in sound, deeply dramatic in meaning.

This tender and comforting work is a “passing of peace” as its simple yet elegant melody washes over the listener, gently unfolding its text with increasing texture:
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives; do not be afraid.”
The Hebrew word shalom forms the refrains, and whispers of the word “peace” further paint the spirit and promise of the text. Written as a way to share peace to one another during the Covid-19 pandemic and racial injustices of 2020, this piece is equally at home in worship or concert settings.
