You haven't heard “Joy to the World” like this before! Dan Forrest reaches into his Irish traditional music experience to pair the well-known carol with a newly composed Irish slide, and the result is an explosion of joy that you simply must hear to believe! With piano four-hands, optional Irish traditional ensemble, and/or full orchestra.
Available separately:
SATB • SSAA • TTBB
Irish Traditional Ensemble includes D Whistle (or Piccolo), Fiddle (Violin), Guitar, Bodhran (or Hand Drum), Bass (upright or electric), and Accordion (or Concertina).
Full Orchestra includes the ensemble parts above and 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets, 2 Bassoons; 2-4 Horns, 2 Trumpets, 2 Trombones, Tuba, Percussion, Timpani, and Strings.
Accompaniment CD for Joy to the World (Piano four-hands and full Irish traditional ensemble).
Piano Part, optimized for fewer page turns in performance. Removal of choral staves, letter-size paper, and layout with page turns in mind all make for an easier performance experience for the two pianists.

Walt Whitman’s poem “I Hear America Singing” (excerpted from Leaves of Grass), with its many references to men singing at their work, seems best suited to the direct and forceful character of unaccompanied men’s chorus. I hear America in song.

A short flute introduction of music floating across the sky opens “Sky-Born Music.” The poet (Emerson) writes that music is heard not only in places of beauty, but also in the mud, the dark, in the daily flow of things. For there, always, something sings.

Set to the poem Everyone Sang written by Siegfried Sassoon at the end of World War I, this uplifting piece opens with accompaniment patterns intended to imitate the flight of birds, followed by soprano and baritone solos. Rich and intuitive choral texture fills out the rest, rising to a triumphant end: “…the singing will never be done.”

An assuring text from master poet Sara Teasdale, its central theme is that one can take refuge in singing. Ever sensitive to the text, Walker crafts word painting throughout with shimmering accompaniment figures, textural changes, and fanfare-like passages in the voices on the word “free.”

Based on a poem by African American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872–1906). The bird, a prisoner in his cage, beats his wing until the blood is red on the cruel bars. He sings a plea, to Heaven, for he would be free.

The message of “The Gift to Sing” is that, even in the darkest of times, music can lift the soul. I have a magic way to turn the gloom to brightest day—I softly sing. One can sing softly, one can sing forcefully (with determination) and one must always sing with passion!

An epic poem by Emerson that talks about music as mystery. The text is matched with equally mysterious music. A part of a larger work entitled “Sing Evermore.”
