Beginning in unison, successive verses display a variety of choral textures that capture the rich sonorities of lower voices.
“Over the mountains and over the waves, under the fountains and under the graves; 'neath floods that are deepest which Neptune obey, o'er rocks that are steepest, love will find out the way.” Written to build confidence in a developing ensemble, the scoring is mostly unison and two-part throughout, with occasional episodes of three-part writing. Kenneth Lampl's Jerusalem is a gorgeous meditation on peace for mixed choir. One can hear the desperation in the music's plea for this ideal. Although the work is scored with divisi and in the Hebrew language, nice vocal writing makes the work singable for many levels.
