The Perfect Start for Solo Playing, Book 3

The solo pieces teach students to play with artistry and expression and reinforce the positions used in the Note Reading book: G positions, F position, and D position. They are encouraged to “tell a story”? through the music as they follow the many changes in dynamics, tempo, pedaling, articulation and octave shifts. Pieces are one to two pages in length; some have lyrics. Titles such as Bernie’s Banana Tree, Rockin’ Rhythm, and Waltz of the Giant Gorillas appeal to young musicians.

The Perfect Start for Solo Playing, Book 2

Eight units cover C Position and Treble C Position, gradually adding one new note per unit. The 24 pieces are one to two pages in length–some with lyrics and some with alternate fingering suggested. Use of pedal, 8va, phrasing and staccato touch are incorporated in this easy-to-read book. Correlated with The Perfect Start for Note Reading, Book 2 this book is great for transfer students and general sight reading.

The Perfect Start for Solo Playing, Book 1

The solo pieces in this 36 page book offer sequential reinforcement of the notes beginning students are learning, and introduce students to the concept of playing with expression and style. Students are encouraged to develop artistry as they play variations in dynamics, tempo, pedaling, articulation, and octave shifts. Large note heads and limited use of rests gives this book a clean look and “easy” feel. Teachers can decide to use optional, alternate fingering. Pieces are one or two pages in length, and can be programmed for performance or evaluation.
